  • As genetic testing becomes increasingly accessible to the general public, the need for foundational genomic literacy has never been greater. Yet significant gaps remain between the pace of scientific advancement and public understanding of genetic concepts, testing options, and the implications of results. Drawing on lessons learned from sponsored genetic testing programs and partnerships with patient advocacy organizations, this webinar will explore the current landscape of genomic literacy and discuss practical strategies for improving understanding across the communities most impacted by these technologies.

Senior Director of Scientific Programs at Global Genes

Karmen Trzupek is the Senior Director of Scientific Programs at Global Genes. In this role, she is responsible for developing collaborative programs and partnerships that maximize the power of patient-owned data to advance rare disease understanding and support the development of treatments. By background and training, Karmen is a clinical genetic counselor who has dedicated her 25 year career to supporting patients and families impacted by rare diseases, and to partnering with rare disease communities as critical stakeholders in the advancement of clinical and therapeutic research. 

Genomic Science Liaison at Ambry Genetics

Since joining Ambry Genetics in 2022, Catherine has served as the Genomic Science Liaison for NYC and the Tristate Region and now supports the Pacific Northwest. She worked previously as a pediatric and primarily oncology genetic counselor at New York-Presbyterian and served on the New York State Genetics Task Force Board of Directors. Catherine received her Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and Genomics from the University of California, Davis. She earned her Master of Science degree in Human Genetics from the Joan H. Marks Graduate Program at Sarah Lawrence College and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
