Ambry Genetic Testing FAQs

How is genetic testing performed?

Genetic testing is simple and straightforward. You'll provide either a blood or saliva sample using a special collection kit from your healthcare provider. The kit is then shipped overnight to Ambry Genetics for processing.

Who receives my test results?

Your test results go directly to your healthcare provider, not to you. They will contact you to review the results and discuss what they mean for your health. Be sure to ask your provider about their specific process and timeline for sharing results with you.

How will my test results be protected?

Ambry Genetics follows the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect your personal health information. You can learn more about HIPAA protections at HHS.gov.

What if my results aren't ready within the expected timeframe?

If your results seem delayed:

  1. Check with your healthcare provider first to see if the results are already in their system
  2. If your provider hasn't received them, contact Ambry's Client Services:

What should I ask my healthcare provider?

Since each provider has different methods and timelines for sharing results, ask:

  • How and when they'll contact you with results
  • What their typical timeline is for reviewing results with patients
  • How they prefer to schedule follow-up appointments
