This session will take you on a journey from single gene testing to multigene panel testing, highlighting key events along the way. With experience in clinical and molecular genetics, Dr. Chao is uniquely positioned to provide insights into the factors that have shaped genetic testing for this condition and the way changes in testing have impacted patient care.

Elizabeth Chao, MD, FACMG is a Clinical Geneticist who is also board-certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics. She completed her training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and has nearly ten years of experience in the clinical laboratory. Currently she is on faculty at the University of California, Irvine as an attending Geneticist where she directs the Hereditary Cancer Predisposition clinic, and Dr. Chao is also the Chief Medical Officer at Ambry Genetics. She served on the ACMG Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee from 2015-2020, and been deeply involved in effort through ACMG as well as ClinGen to develop professional standards for clinical laboratory testing and variant assessment.

Candace Peterson, MS, CGC is a licensed, certified genetic counselor who received her MS in Human Genetics from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY. She is a National Senior Genomic Science Liaison. Prior to joining Ambry, she was a clinical oncology genetic counselor for 16+ years and most recently was Manager & Sr. Genetic Counselor at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, PA . She is passionate about training and educating genetic counselors, nurses, and other medical professionals. She previously taught Cancer Genetics courses at Arcadia University and Fox Chase Cancer Center. In addition to providing clinical support and education to healthcare providers, Candace works closely with Ambry’s Comprehensive Assessment Risk and Education (CARE) program and helps coordinate Cases Café, a national education genetics case conference webinar series.
