  • This presentation will include information on the current state of gene therapy in neuromuscular disease.  It will include successes and failures using spinal muscular atrophy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and XL-myotubular myopathy as examples.

Elicia Estrella is a board-certified and MA-licensed genetic counselor currently practicing at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has 25 years’ experience working as both a clinical and research genetic counselor. The main focus of her career has been in the clinical care and translational research for patients and families with neuromuscular disease. Elicia is the clinical counselor for the neuromuscular and movement disorders teams at Boston Children’s Hospital.  She also manages the neuromuscular clinical trials team.  Additionally, she is the research genetic counselor for the laboratory of Louis Kunkel, Ph.D. studying the pathophysiology of neuromuscular disease. Elicia has published original research articles for several journals and is active as reviewer for several journals.
