Genetics Knowledge and Skills Among Non-Genetics Professionals with Lindsey Alico Ecker, MS, CGC

  • This webinar will review the core competencies for undergraduate medical and graduate nursing education in genetics/genomics. It will highlight the literature that suggests additional knowledge and skills are needed for non-genetics professionals who provide genetics care and review existing opportunities for continuing education. Finally, an educational framework will be used to give example learning objectives for various levels of genetics knowledge and skills.

Clinical Assistant Professor & Director, Genetic Counseling Graduate Program at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Buffalo

Lindsey Alico Ecker, MS, CGC is a clinical assistant professor and director of the genetic counseling graduate program at the University at Buffalo’s (UB) Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She recently led their emerging MS in Genetic Counseling program through ACGC’s accreditation process. Prior to joining UB, Lindsey was co-director of the MS Human Genetics program at Sarah Lawrence College (SLC), where she is still guest faculty. She earned her master’s degree from SLC in 2011 and worked in both clinical cancer and industry settings before pursuing a full-time role in genetics education.

Genomic Science Liaison II at Ambry Genetics

Meghan attended Boston University School of Medicine for her graduate studies in Genetic Counseling. Her studies piqued her interest in the impact of innovative technologies on diagnosing and connecting families with rare genetic disorders. Meghan worked for seven years at Boston Children’s Hospital developing the institutional infrastructure for genomic sequencing and new gene discovery before joining Ambry in 2016. She has held several roles at Ambry including Exome Reporting, Clinical Research Investigator, and is currently on the Rare Disease Genomic Science Liaison team where she supports clinical education about rare disease testing options.
