Effects of Genetic Testing Results on Clinical Management for Lipid Patients with Alan Brown, MD

  • The content of this webinar will be primarily regarding Lipid genetic testing.  Dr. Alan Brown will discuss an autosomal dominant disorder, Familial Hypercholesterolemia, and the role of genetic testing as well as an autosomal recessive disorder, Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome and the role of genetic testing.  At least two cases will be used for illustration and time will be allotted for questions and discussion.

Dr. Alan Brown is the Immediate Past President of the National Lipid Association and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois.  He is currently the Director of the Division of Cardiology at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge Illinois as well as the Co-Director of the Cardiology Service Line for Advocate Health Care.  Dr Brown is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Echocardiography, and Clinical Lipidology and has been the Director of the Lipid Clinic for over 30 years.  He has published multiple articles primarily on Lipid Management in peer reviewed journals. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology as well as Past Chair of the Board of Governors for ACC.  He is also a Fellow of the National Lipid Association, American Heart Association, and American Society of Preventative Cardiology.

Susan Toomey joined Ambry Genetics in 2017 as the General Genetic Specialist for the Mountain and Pacific Northwest territories. Susan received her Masters of Science Degree in Biophysics and Genetics from the University of Colorado; and holds a BA in Sociology and Evolutionary Science from the University of Cincinnati. She has held previous genetic counseling positions at the Colorado Genetics Laboratory, Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine, and the Children’s Hospital Colorado in the Neurocutaneous and Neuromuscular Clinics.
