Exome & General Genetics

Session # Abstract Poster# 422

An analysis of clinical documentation submitted with diagnostic exome sequencing orders and the added burden or benefit of insurance billing

  • This project is an exploration of practices, variables and impact of submitting clinical documentation for diagnostic exome sequencing (DES)
  • Cases with an insurance bill type were more likely to have the necessary clinical documentation submitted with DES orders and were also more likely to have a relevant finding reported when compared to cases with an institutional bill type, although statistical significance could not be reached
  • Approximately 1 out of 4 DES orders required follow-up by laboratory personnel to request missing clinical items
