  • Insurance coverage and access to diagnostic resources are clearly fundamental components of successful patient care, especially in clinical genetics. In this presentation we will discuss the foundational concepts of insurance reimbursement, administrative requirements, coding/billing nuances, and other aspects of the “insurance world” that directly impact diagnosis, treatment, and management opportunities for patients. The purpose of this webinar will be to empower clinicians, patients, and caretakers with a deeper understanding of how the payer system works, how it directly impacts clinical decision making, and how positive outcomes can be accomplished with a better understanding of the US Healthcare System.

Health Plans Director - Policy Specialist, Ambry Genetics

Stephanie Gandomi is a board certified, licensed genetic counselor. She earned her Master of Science in genetic counseling at Brandeis University in 2006 and her MBA from Boise State University in 2019. She is currently the Health Plans Director-Policy Specialist at Ambry Genetics in Market Access. Stephanie is also an AAPC Certified Professional Coder for insurance billing and reimbursement and an AAPC Certified Professional Compliance Officer for insurance. In 2006, Stephanie co-founded the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford Perinatal Diagnostic Center in Salinas, and first joined Ambry Genetics in 2013 as a reporting genetic counselor and product manager for clinical genomics. In 2016, Stephanie became the first genetic counselor in Blue Cross Blue Shield System of payers as the Principal Program Manager for precision medicine at Blue Shield of California. She subsequently became the Director of Genetics at UnitedHealthcare before returning to Ambry in December 2020.

Genomic Science Liaison I, Ambry Genetics

Caitlin joined Ambry Genetics in 2021 as the Oncology Genomic Science Liaison for the Midwest territory. In her current role, she serves as a clinical liaison for the field team to educate health care providers and key opinion leaders on genetic testing and genomic medicine. Caitlin previously worked as an Oncology Genetic Counselor at the University of Iowa in the Holden Comprehensive Cancer center. Caitlin received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a concentration in cell and developmental biology from the University of Iowa. She earned her Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling from the University of Michigan in 2018 and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
