The easy to use Ambry Sample Submission Kit is available at no cost and includes free shipping in the United States. Samples are accepted Monday through Friday. For holiday hours and deliveries, please contact Client Services.

Our Submission Kits include:

  • A prepaid, preprinted airbill
  • Purple top EDTA 5ml tube
  • Biohazard specimen bag
  • Clinical Pak
  • A Test Requisition / Consent form

Packing Guidelines

Ship samples using the Ambry Sample Submission Kit or suitable packaging. For the Ambry Kit:

  • Place up to 5 EDTA tubes within the protective foam.
  • Place the entire kit into a biohazard bag and seal.
  • Place the requisition form and any other patient paperwork into the document pouch of the biohazard bag.
  • Place the kit into the Clinical Pak and seal.
  • Adhere the air bill to the Clinical Pak and ship.

Sending more than one sample per Sample Submission Kit is permissible and preferred. Please enclose a completed Requisition / Consent Form with each sample(s). All Requisition and Consent form requirements must be met prior to processing. Incomplete forms will result in delay of processing of samples.

International Samples

Ambry Genetics accepts international specimens for testing. We request that they be accompanied by payment in US dollars. If pre-payment is not received, there will be a delay in result reporting. Canadian and overseas specimens require special courier assistance. Please call our Client Service Representatives for further information.

The Ambry Sample Submission Kit meets IATA guidelines.

 Whole Blood

Container (in order of preference):

1. Purple Top – EDTA tube (preferred).
2. Yellow Top – citric acetate tube.
Amount: Adult 3-5 cc Pediatric 2 cc minimum.
Storage: at 2-8° C. Do Not Freeze.
Shipment: ship at room temperature for two-day delivery.

 DNA Specimens

Container: Sterile Plastic Tube
Amount:  20-30 µg DNA in TE (10mM Tris-Cl pH 8.0, 1mM EDTA) at a minimum concentration of 0.15 µg/µl. Provide OD 260-280 ratio (1.7-1.9 for DNA), and agarose picture showing DNA quality if available.
Storage: at –20° C.
Shipment: ship on ice for next day delivery (shipment frozen on dry ice is preferred).

 Amniocytes & Chorionic Villi

We accept cultured cells from amniotic fluid or chorionic villi, as well as uncultured villi.

Container: T25 cell flasks or suitable alternative at 80% confluence (cultured cells).
Amount of cultured cells: prefer two (one acceptable) T25 cell flasks or suitable alternative at 80% confluence.

Amount of uncultured villi: 10 mg cleaned tissue in sterile transport medium.
Storage: 2-8° C up to 72 hours. Do Not Freeze.
Shipment: Please call ahead when sending prenatal samples. Maternal Cell Contamination studies are recommended and available at Ambry Genetics. We recommend sending parental bloods for mutation confirmation if previous parental testing was done elsewhere.

 Blood Spots

Container: Schleicher + Schuell (S&S) 903 specimen collection paper.
Amount: minimum of one complete spot of approximately 0.5 inch in diameter.
Storage: at room temperature (sterile bag).
Shipment: ship room temperature for two-day delivery.

 Semen

Container: cryogenic vial.
Amount: 1-2 ml.
Storage: frozen.
Shipment: ship in liquid nitrogen or on dry ice for next-day delivery.
