The Zinc Finger Protein 41 (ZNF41 OMIM 314995)encodes a putative transcription factor with Krupple-type zinc finger binding motifs, but its exact function is currently unknown. The ZNF41 gene is located at Xp11.23 and contains 5 exons. A missense mutation, a splicing mutation, and a complex rearrangement disrupting the ZNF41 gene have been reported in patients with non-syndromic X-linked mental retardation (Shoichet SA et al. Am J Hum Genet. 2003;73:1341-1354).
